Life in Gridley

The Village of Gridley was incorporated on April 1, 1869 under a special charter, and is named after General Ashael Gridley. We are ideally located in central Illinois, close enough to the convenience of cities and interstates, but far enough for the peaceful serenity of rural living.

Location
Just ten miles from Interstate 39 and Interstate 55 in McLean County, Gridley is just 20 miles outside of Bloomington-Normal, and less than 60 miles away from Peoria.

School

In 2004 Gridley Schools consolidated with El Paso, creating El Paso Gridley Community Unit School District #11. The campus is located within the villages of Gridley and El Paso and consists of Elementary, Junior High, and High School facilities. The School’s total enrollment is approximately 1,160 students.

Gridley’s Fire Department / Emergency Services
Our members are volunteers committed to excellence, professionalism, and service to our customers and the communities where we live. Our volunteers are part-time heroes giving selflessly to their community. In return we receive full time appreciation from our neighbors, friends, and families, and joy in the knowledge, we are making our community a safer and better place to live.

Parks, Memorials, Recreation & Activities
Gridley has two area parks, Village Park and Westview Park. Westview park is home to the community swimming pool, which is open in the summer months and available to the entire family. There arealso other activities to keep the kids busy such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts of America, 4-H, Little League, and Swim Team.

In 2002, Gridley opened The Gridley Telephone Museum to commemorate the Gridley Telephone Company. The museum is an amazing display of memorabilia that shows the evolution of communication services in rural Illinois.

In addition, Gridley holds an annual Memorial Day Parade, village-wide auction, and community wide garage sales.
